Timico Teams With Nortel to Launch Hosted Voice over IP Service for Business
Becomes First UK Provider of Converged Mobile, Fixed, Internet and VoIP Services
LONDON – Timico Ltd., an independent provider of converged communication services to the UK business market, today launched a hosted IP PBX Centrex solution enabled by Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT]. This new service brings hosted voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia communications firmly into the UK business arena. The agreement for Nortel equipment was signed in March 2005 and the network has been deployed.
The addition of VoIP to Timico’s existing fixed and mobile telecommunication and Internet services makes Timico the first company in the UK to be able to provide converged mobile, fixed, internet and VoIP services on one bill within a single customer management solution, allowing companies to manage their users’ total communication costs under a single cost centre-based hierarchy.
Timico is working with Nortel to offer SIP-based, multimedia communications server (MCS) services that provide carrier levels of robustness and an enhanced feature set.
“Some consumer Internet-based voice applications may be useful for individual users, but they are not fit for business use,” said Mike Webb, managing director, Timico. “In the business market security and quality of service issues must be addressed, as well as increased functionality. Using a Nortel-based solution, our aim is to take VoIP beyond the free Internet telephone call, providing a complete service that allows businesses of all sizes to enjoy the benefits of cutting edge communication without the high capital costs associated with installing your own switch.”
“We expect this service to halve our customers’ total fixed line costs,” Webb said.
Timico’s new ‘VoIP for Business’ service offers a range of new and exciting multimedia features such as presence, desktop video conferencing and file sharing, all with the added benefit of dramatic reductions on call charges. It offers an IP Centrex capability as a hosted service with complete resilience and 24-hour system management.
“From today, Timico’s customers are able to benefit from a robust, carrier grade VoIP service making powerful new communications capabilities available to business users of all sizes,” said Brian Day, vice president carrier voice networks, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), Nortel. “Nortel is delighted to work with a progressive company like Timico, enabling it to complete its converged service portfolio and enhance further the communications experience of UK businesses.”
From the small office looking for entry-level VoIP to companies with a chain of branch offices who need more sophisticated capabilities, Timico can provide a low capital expense, cost saving IP solution. The Timico VoIP for Business solution provides a tiered range of services aimed at ensuring all businesses can benefit from the cost savings and productivity enhancements of the IP communication world. It can be implemented on a standalone basis as a PABX replacement service or used in conjunction with existing fixed line infrastructure to route outbound calls at a lower cost, add more extension capacity, or connect branch offices and home workers.
Timico’s focus on providing only business strength services means that the company is building a reputation for quality and innovation amongst the business community. It provides its customers with a single point of contact and a single bill covering all aspects of business communication. Atlas Internet, a wholly owned subsidiary of Timico and specialist business-to-business Internet service provider, provides the managed connectivity for the VoIP solution, ensuring a consistent quality of service.
