Issue@Hand
Previously unknown companies are poised to bring storage area network (SAN) technology to the marketplace, using cost-effective Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) networking components and Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) disk drives.
Aberdeen Perspective
Large, established computer platform and storage infrastructure vendors have seemed incapable of bringing to market SAN technology that is not aimed at the carriage trade. Consequently, start-up vendors are emerging with disruptive technology-based SAN storage for "Joe Six-Pack." With explicit support from Microsoft, low-cost iSCSI/ATA SANs are likely to find wide adoption as backing storage for Exchange and SQL Server and network-attached storage (NAS) that is based on the Microsoft Server Appliance Kit (SAK) operating system (OS).
